Merlin 8/16 is not a particularly user friendly program as was the case with many software titles of the day. In addition to the standard editing functions, there were also sample programs in the package including an Applesoft disassembler and a Pi calculation program. All of these variations were included in the same retail package as time went on. With the introduction of the IIgs, the product was split into Merlin 8 (for 8-bit Apple II computers) and Merlin 16 for the 16-bit IIgs. Initially available for DOS 3.3, it eventually supported ProDOS and was updated for 65C6 processors. Merlin 8 was a commercial 6502 macroassembler for the Apple II series of computers.
